Anthropic’s Claude Tag is learning your company, one Slack message at a time

Anthropic has announced Claude Tag, an “always-on Claude” that lives in Slack and functions as an AI teammate. The service, available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, allows users to tag @Claude in chat channels for insights and task assignments. Claude Tag builds on existing Slack integrations—such as DMing @Claude or tagging it for on-demand help, and Claude Code for routing coding tasks—but adds persistent context and memory. As stated by Anthropic, “As Claude follows along with its channel, it learns ever more about the work” and can automatically gather facts from other channels if granted permission. Every user in a Slack channel accesses a single Claude identity, enabling anyone to see what Claude has been working on and continue conversations. System administrators control which tools, information, and channels Claude can access, ensuring Claude set up for legal work, for example, does not seed memories into engineering channels. When assigned a task, Claude Tag breaks it into stages and works through them using available tools, then responds in a Slack thread. Additionally, an ambient mode allows Claude to proactively jump into chats, keep teams updated, flag cross-organizational information, and follow up on forgotten threads or tasks. Anthropic describes this as “working with a real colleague—one that can produce work in public view, with far greater context and understanding.” Context is increasingly critical for enterprise AI deployments. Anthropic joins competitors like Microsoft (with Graph via Copilot and Work IQ), Snowflake and Databricks (positioning platforms as back-end support for organizational knowledge), and Glean (building an intelligence layer between models and enterprise data).
