AMD announced the Ryzen AI Embedded X100 and new Kria AI system-on-module/dev kit at its Advancing AI event, targeting the physical AI (robotics and edge AI) market as its next growth frontier beyond server AI. The X100 series, based on Strix Halo silicon, delivers up to 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, 40 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, and a 256-bit LPDDR5X memory bus, qualified for industrial use from -40°C to 105°C with sub-7 μS interrupt latency for real-time operation. Three SKUs are planned: X199 (16C+40CU), X188 (12C+32CU), and X168 (8C+32CU), all under a 10-year lifecycle program. AMD also unveiled a new Kria SOM and dev kit powered by the X100, replacing older Zynq-based modules to offer higher performance for robotics, healthcare, defense, and broadcast applications. The company sees physical AI as the next business AI wave, driven by improving model accuracy and shrinking model sizes that make edge AI more viable. With cash flow from the data center AI boom, AMD is investing in this peripheral market alongside its core server hardware push.
