Next Gen Server Memory On Display: DDR5-8000 RDIMMs and MRDIMM Gen2 Hits DDR5-12800
MSI showcased its upcoming CD182-S6091-X2 (DLC) server node at Computex, a high-density 1OU2N liquid-cooled system designed for AMD’s next-generation 6th-gen EPYC “Venice” platform, targeting data center operators seeking maximum compute density and efficiency. The CD182-S6091-X2 (DLC) packs two dual-socket nodes into a single 1OU OCPv3 chassis, enabling four Venice processors and 16 DDR5 memory channels per node (32 RDIMMs total) with direct liquid cooling (DLC) for both CPUs and memory to manage the high TDPs expected from Venice. Each node features PCIe Gen6 connectivity via an OCP 3.0 NIC slot, one FHHL and one HHHL PCIe Gen6 x16 slot, and four E1.S SSD bays for local storage. The system is powered by a 48VDC busbar, eliminating onboard power supplies. MSI also demonstrated an ORv3 liquid-cooled rack capable of housing 28 such nodes, supporting up to 100kW of computing—equivalent to 112 Venice processors and 1,792 RDIMMs—with dual 55kW Chicony power shelves and a 100kW Auras CDU for liquid-to-liquid cooling. The rack includes a 32-port 100GbE switch for data and dual 48-port 1GbE switches for out-of-band management via ASPEED AST2700 BMCs. With Venice bringing 16-channel memory, PCIe Gen6, and higher core counts, MSI’s CD182-S6091-X2 (DLC) positions itself as a leading platform for next-generation high-density AI and enterprise workloads.
