Bull, a leader in advanced computing and AI, and Alice & Bob, a specialist in fault-tolerant quantum computing using cat qubits, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to extend their collaboration across research, product innovation, and commercialization. The partnership aims to accelerate the development and adoption of quantum technologies in Europe and beyond. The agreement expands cooperation in four key areas: Research & development – advancing quantum applications, particularly in material physics, and integrating large-scale quantum systems within high-performance computing (HPC) environments; Product innovation – exploring new offerings, including containerization and assembly of quantum systems; Software development – extending Bull’s Qaptiva HPC and Qaptiva Access tools to better support cat qubit emulation and execution on Alice & Bob’s chips in HPC settings; Commercial development – jointly addressing global business opportunities, with a focus on sovereignty-driven projects. The collaboration leverages complementary strengths: Alice & Bob focuses on building a universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer using cat qubit technology to reduce hardware requirements, while Bull brings long-standing HPC expertise, system integration, global support, and industrial capabilities, including a manufacturing site in Angers. Together, they aim to enable scalable hybrid HPC and quantum infrastructures. The partnership aligns with Bull’s ambition to federate the European quantum ecosystem and support a sovereign quantum sector. By working with a leading European QPU developer and using its hardware-agnostic Qaptiva platform, Bull strengthens its position in quantum emulation and HPC-quantum hybridization. The initial focus will be on Europe, including France, the UK, and Germany, where national and regional quantum initiatives are underway. Bruno Lecointe, head of HPC, AI and Quantum Computing at Bull, stated that this phase builds on their quantum application platform and aims to integrate future quantum capabilities into existing HPC infrastructures, turning technologies into practical tools while strengthening Europe’s technological autonomy. Chloé Poisbeau, COO of Alice & Bob, said the partnership will accelerate quantum technology adoption and drive broader QPU adoption by integrating error-corrected quantum computing within HPC environments.
