Minisforum’s Upcoming MS-03 SFF PC Brings More of a Good Thing
At Computex 2025, MiTAC, one of Taiwan's largest server vendors, showcased its latest AI and HPC server solutions, driven by surging demand for AI hardware and the evolution of agentic systems. The company highlighted two major liquid-cooled rack systems designed to maximize density and performance. First, MiTAC demonstrated a 52U AMD Instinct MI355X liquid-cooled rack, a turnkey product intended for rapid deployment. It packs 12 G4826Z5 AI servers, each with 8 AMD Instinct MI355X accelerators, totaling 96 GPUs per rack. Each 4U server also houses two AMD EPYC 9xx5 processors, up to 3TB memory, and eight U.2 SSD bays. The rack integrates Broadcom Tomahawk 5 800Gbps Ethernet switches for networking and a 200kW CDU from Nidec for liquid cooling. MiTAC claims this design offers 50% greater density per rack compared to standard air-cooled configurations. Second, MiTAC presented a 48U OCP ORv3-compliant HPC liquid-cooled rack, built from its own compute and storage hardware. This rack uses C2811Z5 2U servers (AMD EPYC 9555, up to 3TB memory) paired with LE2S01 "Lake Erie" storage servers, each featuring 36 3.5-inch drive bays in 2OU. Power is supplied by a Murata shelf, and cooling by a 250kW Nidec CDU. The rack also includes external SFF-8674 connections for disk shelves. Additionally, MiTAC displayed individual servers featuring diamond cooling technology for GPUs, addressing thermal challenges in high-performance systems. These offerings underscore MiTAC's strategy to provide complete, high-density server solutions for AI and HPC workloads, leveraging partnerships with AMD, Broadcom, and Nidec.
